  1. 2012 has seen the arrival of our newest Team Kilminster family member!

Going by the name Lovelyhill Sahara, or just Sahara to her friends, this lovely little mare moved in with Monty on 29th January and immediately settled in well.

Sahara actually belongs to my own partner Martin, but is as much a Team Kilminster member as Monty and Martin are!

So what are Sahara statistics? Well, she is a New Forest x Appaloosa, 9 years old, stands at approx 15.1hh and is a Dun Spotty - and is lovely!

Previously she has been a happy hacker and started some schooling work when Martin purchased her back in 2008, including jumping, which she took to very well, however we are looking to up her game and start competing at dressage as soon as she is ready, there is some work to be done first, but as she tries so hard to please, we are not anticipating that this will take too long!

Both myself and Martin will be the ones out and about on her, and maybe our sponsored rider Nicki Strong may well be seen jumping her at some point too.

As she has only just moved in, we are taking things a little slowly with her to begin, let her settle and find her feet, so to keep her ticking over we have been using the pessoa on her and these are the first pictures of her at work with Team Kilminster...

As you can see, a true pro! Settled in to the new arena and just got on with it, what a star!

Keep visiting the website for updates on Sahara's progress and hopefully some competition news!

  2. We have been a little quiet on the blog front as we have been so busy!

So what have we been up to? Well, with the announcement of our sponsored rider Nicola Strong, we have been very busy devising a training plan along with organising the forthcoming competition season, not an easy feat in itself! As any competition rider knows the season needs planning carefully to ensure that the horse and rider are fit enough for the job in hand and also to prevent peaking too soon at the beginning of the season. We have carefully picked out the events we aim to attend, ranging from dressage to British Eventing and British Showjumping. There is also the organising of the Sponsorship clothing, something we are on top of now, hopefully it will all arrive by next week, watch this space for the pictures!!

Nicola has developed her own website to keep updating what she is up to for herself and for Team Kilminster, you can visit it here: http://www.headstrongequestrian.com/ there will be a regular blog post from the training sessions as well as the competitions attended.

Along with all this planning, we entered a facebook competition through our Kilminster Equestrian Page, it is for Equine Social Media Awards, it is a new idea and is similar to the likes of the MOBO's and the Oscars! But this is purely equestrian based with many categories available for anyone who uses social media to connect with people. The following extract is taken from the ESMA Site:

"During the 9 day run up to Christmas Eve, 2,629 individuals submitted 8,137 nominations via our app on Facebook. We've since been through the unenviable task of selecting ten finalists in each category from nearly 2,000 nominees."

So as you can possibly tell, when I received the email to say we had made the finals of this prestigious award ceremony, I was elated! The voting is still ongoing and I would urge all Kilminster Equestrian Ltd's fabulous clientele to go and vote for us, we have made it this far, can we make it a win?? Please visit : http://www.equestriansocialmediaawards.com/voting and find us in the Riding schools category.

So, as you can see it has been an exciting start to 2012 for us already, we will be out and about at shows around the southern end of England attending shows throughout January, if you spot us in our new gear, please come and say hello, I know a lot of people like to read about us and follow us, but it would be great to meet a few of you too!
